Overcoming Dissent Through Genuine, Transforming Love w/ Dr. Janet Smith
November 30, 2017 @ 7:30 PM - 8:30 PMFree will offering
“True welcoming means we make it clear we want everyone to join us in following Jesus.” We have reached a time when rejection of Church teaching seems to be swirling all about us, and we can all struggle with sharing the best, most loving response. But that charitable response can be hard to come by when our deeply held beliefs and cherished institutions seem to be under attack. Prof. Janet Smith, a professor of Moral Theology at Sacred Heart Major Seminary, has been among those fighting dissent for nearly 40 years. Her writing, teaching, and speaking have touched on subjects ranging from the defense of ‘Humanae Vitae’ and the ‘Theology of the Body’, to the pastoral care of homosexuals, to her most recent and most personal work of caring for her aging mother through her final years of Dementia. There IS a loving way to respond both to individuals and to the culture at large. With her unique blend of insight, story-telling, and humor, Prof. Smith will share with us some wisdom and anecdotes from her years as a culture warrior. Both men and women are welcome An evening not to be missed!
Dr. Janet E. Smith holds the Fr. Michael J. McGivney Chair of Life Ethics at Sacred Heart Major Seminary in Detroit. She is the author of “Humanae Vitae: A Generation Later” and “Right to Privacy”, and editor of “Why Humanae Vitae Was Right.” A reader, and co-author (with Chris Kaczor) of “Life Issues, Medical Choices, Questions and Answers for Catholics.”
MASS WILL BE CELEBRATED BEFORE THE EVENT AT 6.30 PM IN THE AVE MARIA CHAPEL IN LOBBY “C” OF DOMINO’S FARMS.
