Dexter Community Band Winter Concert

February 25, 2018 @ 3:00 PM - 4:30 PM

Free

Join the Dexter Community Band for a winter concert with music inspired by William Shakespeare’s plays. The program includes the well known and beloved works of the Overture from The Merry Wives of Windsor by Otto Nicolai, the Prelude from Macbeth by Verdi, and the Wedding March from Midsummer’s Night Dream by Mendelssohn. A newer composition, Shakespeare Pictures by Nigel Hess, combines three works to form a 12-minute suite with a boisterous overture to Much Ado About Nothing, followed by a contrasting slow movement depicting the beautiful statue from A Winter’s Tale before displaying the pomp of ancient Rome with “The Entry to the Senate” in Julius Caesar. Admission and ample parking are free.
The band is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization and all approximately ninety members are volunteers from the local area. Even though it is an amateur organization, the band performs on a professional level in the area and has toured and performed in Europe and Ireland.
