In February, 2013 Fr. James was appointed sixth pastor of St. Francis of Assisi Parish which he took over in August that year. He was installed as pastor by Bishop Boyea on October 5, 2013.

Fr. Tony Smela talks about his podcast ‘Flint Catholic’ and shares an epiphany moment.

I was ordained a priest for the diocese of Lansing in June of 2017. From there I’ve served at St. Thomas the Apostle in Ann Arbor, St. Francis in Ann Arbor, St. John Vianney in Flint, as a teacher at Powers Catholic High School, and now as a chaplain at Powers Catholic High School, which happens to be my alma mater.

Patty Stephanoff  nvites listeners to A Day with the Saints at Sweetest Heart of Mary.

Married to James for 43 years and we live in Livonia. We have three sons that all graduated from UofD Jesuit high school and are all married. We have nine beautiful grandchildren; ages 1 to 8. • I’m a cradle Catholic and have seven siblings. We all graduated from Divine Child High School.  Two of my uncles, both deceased, were ordained into the priesthood in the Archdiocese of Toledo, Monsignor Gilbert Schmenk and Monsignor Cleo Schmenk.  My husband and I are parishioners of Mother of Divine Mercy parish a.k.a. Sweetest Heart of Mary Church that hosts the famous pierogi festival. We and many other fellow parishioners followed Father Greg Kotarski to MDM from the closed Saint Claire of Assisi parish. I have a BS degree in Forestry from Michigan Technological University and I am a Master Gardener. I am retired, but keep overly busy babysitting, volunteering at a number of area Catholic Churches and golfing.
