Segment 1

Mark Heires talks about his first book “Searching High and Low”.

I grew up in Fort Dodge, Iowa where I attended Holy Rosary Grade School and Saint Edmonds High School where my mom taught language, speech and drama. Both of my parents grew up in large farm families in the German Catholic rural community around Carroll, Iowa where I was born. My dad’s three sister all became nuns. Sister Walter and Sister Rita (now 96 years young) Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration. Sister Martin became a Medical Missionary Sister after serving our country as an army nurse in WWII South Pacific. After taking her vows she served in Pakistan, India, and Ghana.

My wife taught in Midland’s Blessed Sacrament School before we started our family. My oldest son Timothy (married with a son) is an elementary school teacher in Ypsilanti. My daughter Laura (one son) was trained as a pastry chef, now works as a technical specialist for a logistic company. My son Kevin (married with five children) is a mechanical engineer. Both Laura and Kevin live in Midland. My youngest son Mathew (married with a son) is an architect in Milwaukee.
