Fr. Chris Nahra talks about St. Sharbel.
Born and raised in Cleveland, OH, Fr. Chris grew up in a typical Maronite Catholic household. He was very active in St. Maron’s Parish in Cleveland serving as an altar boy, participating in youth group, and singing in the choir. Senior year of high school, he answered the call to the priesthood and was accepted as a pre-seminarian in the Eparchy of Our Lady of Lebanon. For three years, he worked as the youth minister and choir director at St. Maron’s Parish while earning his B.A. in Philosophy at Cleveland State University. In addition to studying at CSU, he worked as the Marketing Director for Cleveland State’s Student Life Department, served as the President of the Lebanese Student Organization, and sang in the University Chorus. After concluding his studies and ministry, he moved to Washington DC in 2017 to begin his theological education at the Catholic University of America (CUA). For four years, he studied at CUA earning two master’s degrees (STB & MDiv) in both Theology and Ministry specializing in Youth and Young Adult Ministry. He also served as the summer chaplain of University of Pennsylvania’s Hospital (UPenn) in 2018. After graduating from the master’s program in May 2021, Fr. Chris began his advanced theological studies at the Catholic University of America focusing on Syriac Theology and what makes us Maronite. He also was the 2022 Charles Malik Research Fellow for the “In Defense of Christians” (IDC) organization in Washington, DC where he worked on advancing methods and protocols to engage the youth of the Middle East in inter-religious dialogue in efforts to promote community and fellowship. He currently serves as the Associate Pastor of St. Sharbel Maronite Catholic Church in Clinton Twp, Michigan while working with the youth/young adults and media ministries in the Eparchy.
