Mary Ann and Brian Thelen

Brian and Mary Ann Thelen grew up in a small town in Michigan that would remind you of days gone by. They were high school sweethearts and migrated across Michigan after marrying, ending up in Ann Arbor. Brian is a research scientist at Michigan Technological Research Institute and also teaches probability and statistics at the University of Michigan. After working as an office manager, Mary Ann became a stay-at-home mom when their first child was born. One of the things that both Brian and Mary Ann are passionate about is the role of the family in the Church and society. Since 2019 Brian and Mary Ann have been serving as president couple of the Christian Family Movement, a growing network of neighborhood and parish based small groups of Catholic and Christian families that gather for the purpose of Christian family discipleship. Together the Thelens have started numerous family-based small groups, mentored a great many others and spoken to parishes and dioceses across the country. They have written and/or edited various chapters and discussion guides including: Saints, Friends of the Family; Loving the Family God Gives Us; and Man, Woman and The Domestic Church. They have 5 grown children – 2 in religious life and 3 married – and their 13th grandchild is due in July. They feel compelled to help families realize that they reveal God to the world as love is the essence of the Trinity and love in the family is the greatest revelation of God himself. Together Brian and Mary Ann work to strengthen marriage and family, helping them make friends, make disciples and make a difference.
