5:20 – The Media’s (non)Coverage of the Vigano Scandal
As we’ve been saying for nearly two weeks now, we don’t know if Archbishop Vigano’s claims are true but we do know this – they demand investigation. At least 26 bishops have authored or co-signed statements asking for investigation, and an open letter published by Catholic Women’s Forum has received 39,000 signatures and counting. But instead of doing the leg work of investigation, much of the mainstream media coverage has attempted to brush Vigano off as an anti-Francis radical, the latest example of the “liberal v conservative” or “Francis v Benedict” divide in the Church. Teresa Tomeo joins us.
