Belarusians have taken to the streets in the thousands every day since a disputed August 9 election, demanding authoritarian leader Alyaksandr Lukashenka step down after a vote they contend was rigged to hand him a landslide win over an opposition candidate who drew unprecedented support before the balloting. Catholic officials have spoken out in defense of the protesters and, in response, Archbishop Kondrusiewicz of Minsk was barred from returning to the country from Poland. Tony Wesolowsky has the details on what’s going on.
