Many of you have asked us for updates on Nick Thomm, who hasn’t been on the air for some time. Nick has served as Executive Producer for Kresta in the Afternoon and is well-known for his news headlines, film reviews and fascinating facts. His years-long battle with a brain tumor forced him to step away from the program in April and we thank you for keeping his family in your prayers. Nick and his wife Jenn join us today with an update on how he is doing and how you can follow his story.

5:00 – Register Recap: Pope Francis Accepts Cardinal Wuerl’s Resignation

This morning Pope Francis officially accepted the resignation Cardinal Donald Wuerl submitted upon turning 75 in November 2015. Wuerl has faced harsh criticism since the release of the Pennsylvania Grand Jury report and the revelations about former Cardinal McCarrick and last month submitted a request for Francis to accept his resignation. He will remain on as an Apostolic Administrator until a replacement can be found. Matthew Bunson joins us with the latest.

Friday is the anniversary of Fr. Walter Ciszek’s return to the US from the Soviet Union, where he spent 15 years in labor camps and another eight with restricted freedoms. We look at his story and the state of his Cause for Canonization with John Dejak.

This past Sunday, Archbishop Allen Vigneron  addressed how the Church became so grievously wounded by the crimes of child sexual abuse and explored how the faithful are called to respond. In his homily, he declared “We need to buckle on the word of God as the sword by which to fight against evil.” The Archbishop joins us.
