Talking about the “Things That Matter Most” on May 6, 2019
4:00 – Contrasting Catholicism and Buddhism
In his book Living Buddha, Living Christ, Buddhist monk Thich Hhat Hanh claims that “when you are a truly happy Christian, you are also a Buddhist – and vice versa.” Given the stark differences between the faiths, this should be seen as the nonsense that it is – but many today would agree. How do the lives and teachings of Buddha and Jesus contrast? We talk with Anthony Clark.
4:40 – Cross Catholic: Providing Clean Drinking Water Around the World
Many in the developed world take access to drinking water for granted, but it’s a daily struggle for millions. More than 80% of the diseases in developing countries are related to poor drinking water and sanitation and 800 children under the age of five die each day from diarrhea attributed to poor drinking water. Cross Catholic Outreach has water projects in 9 countries, where it works with partners to help find, retrieve and filter good water sources. Jim Cavnar joins us.
5:00 – Papal Authority and the Bar for Heresy
We looked last week at an open letter that charges Pope Francis with heresy. To do so is a serious matter, and to its credit the letter makes a serious attempt. But what is the defition of heresy, and does the letter reach the mark? What does the Church say about papal authority and the papal office? We talk with Jimmy Akin.
5:20 – Finding the Truth: A Long Journey to the Church
When Nicole Dupuy and her family entered the Catholic Church in 2014, it was the result of many years of searching for the truth. She and her husband Dane had been raised in Christian homes but had never found a personal relationship with Jesus. In her youth, she was told the Catholic Church was the Whore of Babylon – what did it take for her to examine if it’s the Church founded by Jesus? Nicole joins us.
