Talking about the “Things That Matter Most” on May 29, 2020

4:00 – The Safe Way to Reopen Churches

Dr Timothy Flanigan is both a Catholic deacon and an expert on infectious diseases, so he has the unique viewpoint of acutely understanding both the pandemic and the pain Catholics are feeling as they wait for public Masses to resume. He joins us with safe guidelines Churches can follow.

4:20 – Pentecost: The Birthday of the Church

This weekend we celebrate the great Feast of Pentecost, the birthday of the Church. As we prepare to enter Ordinary Time, Steve Ray joins us looking at the Jewish roots of the feast and Mary’s role in the events.

5:00 – Religious Liberty in a Pandemic Age

Catholics in Maryland were disturbed to hear this week of an executive order that would ban “consumption of food or beverage of any kind before, during or after religious services,” which effectively would have prohibited the celebration of the Mass. The order was reversed within a day, but still raises concerns for how churches can reopen, even as restrictions are loosened for other institutions. Montserrat Alvarado joins us.

5:20 – EWTN Roundup

Near the end of his Mother’s Day homily on Sunday, May 10, Fr. Joseph asked EWTN viewers to send flowers to Our Lady during the month of May. However, there was a catch. Each flower had to represent one rosary – and the response was incredible. We talk with Doug Keck and also look at Catholic radio’s outreach during the pandemic and some upcoming programming on the saints.

5:40 – The Last Words of Norma

In 1995 former NARAL head Kate Michelman lamented the conversion of Norma McCorvey, saying “The anti-choice movement will have a field-day with this and exploit it for all it’s worth.” And now, a quarter-century later, a new documentary claims that the conversion was never real and Norma was simply manipulated. Monica Miller has seen the film and joins us.
