Talking about the “Things That Matter Most” on March 5, 2020
Live from the Called & Co-Responsible Conference at Notre Dame!
4:00 – Forming the Lay Faithful in the Parish
Co-Responsibility of the Laity exists at several levels, including the Parish. How can the laity work within their Parish to form its members, especially its youth? We talk with Katie Gleason.
4:20 – The Royal Priesthood of the Laity
The Church has long taught that all baptized Christians share in Christ’s royal priesthood, and that we are “a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s own people,” who should “declare the wonderful deeds of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.” What does that mean for the Laity, especially in this time of crisis? We’ll talk about it with Fr Michael Sweeney.
5:00 – The Laity and the New Evangelization
Despite the challenges, there has never been a better time to be Catholic in America. We’re seeing it at the Called and Co-Responsible Conference, where Michel Therrien is explaining the work he does with the Laity and the New Evangelization. He joins us.
5:20 – Taking the Role of All the Baptized in Church Leadership Seriously
What is leadership in the Church? There is, of course, the leadership that comes with the sacrament of Holy Orders, which includes the gifts of sacramental celebration, apostolic teaching, and governance in the manner of Christ the Good Shepherd, filled with pastoral charity. This remains in place and is undisputed. Is that the full extent of leadership in the Church? Is “leadership” just another way of talking about the hierarchy and nothing else? John Cavadini is our guest.
