Monasticism began spreading throughout the West a few centuries after Christ, but it was largely disorganized and each monk lived their own style. St Benedict, who began as a hermit, transformed Monastic life with the Rule of St Benedict. Combining strictness, flexibility and wisdom, it became the universal guide for Western monks. Bill Cook joins us.

5:20 – US reporting mechanism for episcopal abuse cases launched
A national third-party reporting system for allegations of abuse, neglect, or misconduct against bishops in the US has been launched. The system is meant for allegations against bishops and involves assessment from a metropolitan archbishop and a member of the laity. We’ll talk this and other news with Matthew Bunson.
