Talking about the “Things That Matter Most” on June 3, 2019
4:00 – What Did Pope Francis Say about his Knowledge of McCarrick?
We spoke briefly last week about an interview in which Pope Francis said he had never been told about McCarrick – though it’s now being reported that the Vatican’s initial translation omitted Francis’ additional comments that if he had been informed, he forgot. But that doesn’t change the discrepancy between his words and Archbishop Vigano’s. It’s certainly no small thing to accuse a pope of lying, but it’s also no small thing to claim that a veteran archbishop has conspired and lied about his pontiff. How should we handle this? We talk with Phil Lawler.
4:20 – The Missionary of Wall Street
Steve Auth is a senior executive with one of the country’s largest money managers – so what’s he doing on the streets of New York in the dead of night? Believe it or not, he’s evangelizing. And he gets all sorts of responses when he invites people to Confession. Why does he do it? Because he knows he’s needed there. He joins us with tales from the streets.
5:00 – When We Were Gods: Kolbe’s Battle with a Nazi Commandant
On May 28, 1941, Maximilian Kolbe was sent to Auschwitz, where he would die that August. Catholic filmmaker and author Stan Williams has begun a new film on the life of Kolbe and his battle with Auschwitz commandant Rudolf Hoess. He joins us with a sneak peek of this incredible story.
5:20 – Shaping a Christian Heart
How do we balance humility between the extremes of pride and self-deprecation? How do we accept the realities of success, money, even fame and power, and still live as Christian disciples? Is that even possible? Attaining humility can seem like a hopeless chase; we aren’t sure what to look for, but we know we should pursue it. Joel Stepanek joins us.
