Talking about the Things That Matter Most on July 23, 2019
4:00 – Resurrecting the Idea of a Christian Society
America’s two greatest strengths—her liberal democratic culture and her free-market economy—have made her a global superpower. But left unchecked, these two strengths can become great cultural weaknesses, sowing selfishness, recklessness, and apathy. We’ll talk about resurrecting the idea of a Christian society with R.R. Reno.
5:00 – Do Catholics have a place in the UK’s NHS?
Since the deaths of Alfie Evans and Charlie Gard, there have been more disturing stories coming out of the UK. Earlier this summer an English judge ordered doctors to perform an abortion on a woman with developmental disabilities, despite the objections of both the woman and her mother who had offered to raise the child. Thankfully the ruling was overturned but it does raise the question about the future of Catholic medical providers in a system that is increasingly indifferent to their moral consciences. We’ll talk with KV Turley.
5:20 – Interacting with a Hostile Culture
How are Christians viewed in the broader culture? We blush at the possibilities. Brainwashed fanatics? Out-of-touch dogmatists? Buffoons? The task of bearing faithful witness to Jesus is complicated by persistent―and not altogether baseless―cultural stereotypes. Tim Muehlhoff joins us to discuss interacting with a culture that has rejected us and our message.
