Talking about the “Things That Matter Most” on August 2, 2018

4:00 – Children are being Euthanized in Belgium

Like abortion advocates, the so-called “Death with Dignity” movement has always crowed the virtue of choice. And like abortion, we see more and more proof that many who “choose” to die have no choice at all. The latest example from Belgium shows that at least three children, one as young as nine, have been euthanized. We talk with Wes Smith.

4:20 – Why Leaders Fail: Narcissism vs. Service

The list of dedicated, talented leaders who fail in spectacular ways is long, both in the secular world and in the Church. Why do such hard-working, charismatic people ultimately fall short of their goals? The Bathsheba Syndrome highlights how narcissism and power can cause leaders to stray from the path of selfless service. Rev. Msgr. Stephen Rossetti joins us with ways to avoid this human trap.

4:40 – Did the Vatican get it right on the Financial crisis?

Early this year the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith and the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development jointly released a document called Oeconomicae et pecuniae quaestiones (“On Economic and Monetary Issues”), which was intended to give insights and guidance for the current financial system. In response, the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission issued an extensive letter to the Vatican addressing some of the document’s points. What did the Vatican say and what drove the response? We talk with Dr Robert Whaples.

5:00 – Responding to Difficult Catholic News

We continue our look at how Catholics are responding to the fallout of the McCarrick scandal. Matthew Bunson joins us.

5:20 – Dear Troubled Catholics

Ralph Martin has been a leader in the New Evangelization for years and has seen the Church face times of struggle. But he has never seen so many “ordinary Catholics” so deeply – and rightfully – troubled. But one thing doesn’t change – the Church is our mother. Ralph joins us.
