Cheryl Hughes tells us about her latest book, “Archbishop Fulton J, Sheen: Convert Maker.” Michael Anderson with Schola Antiqua talks about composer Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina and a special performance for the 500th anniversary of his birth.

Cheryl C. D. Hughes holds a Ph.D. in historical theology from Durham University in England. Her books include Katharine Drexel: The Riches-to-Rags Story of an American Catholic Saint (2014) and Crossing Boundaries and Confounding Identity: Chinese Women in Literature, Art, and Film (2023).

Segment 4 – “Palestrina at 500” at St. Thomas the Apostle in Ann Arbor Jan 5th
The Schola Antiqua Chicago (with Michael Anderson) will be performing at St. Thomas the Apostle in Ann Arbor on Sunday, January 5th, at 3:00pm. Tickets can be purchased at the door. The concert is called “Palestrina at 500” and it celebrated the quincentennial of the birth of composer Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina. The next day (January 6th), the Schola will be in Grand Rapids.

Michael Anderson is Professor and Chair of Musicology at the Eastman School of Music at the University of Rochester. He is also the Artistic Director of Schola Antiqua. Michael is an expert in the field of ancient music.  He is a two-time winner of the Deems Taylor Award (American Society for Composers, Authors, and Publishers) for outstanding writing about music, and his achievements with Schola Antiqua earned him Chorus America’s 2016 Louis Botto Award for Innovative Action and Entrepreneurial Zeal.
