His portrayal of that day reveals a portrait of a community on edge. Ellis’s words capture the tension and uncertainty nation that still remembered the last Great War. It’s a heartbreaking scenario that many of us will face: doctors tell you a loved one is in a vegetative state and will need to rely on a feeding tube for nutrition. They ask you if they should remove the tube. Is it ever ethical to do so? Andrew Kubick joins us.

Andrew S. Kubick is the Deputy Director of the National Center for Religious Freedom Education and Research Fellow in Bioethics and Medical Conscience at the Religious Freedom Institute. He is also a Personal Consultations Ethicist at the National Catholic Bioethics Center and Adjunct Instructor of Bioethics at the University of Mary. His book Transplanting the Womb: A Catholic Bioethical Analysis is due out this fall.
