Our consumption decisions should be focused on the needs of our family members. This requires attention to unglamorous factors such as budgets and nutritional requirements, instead of being up-to-date with the brands and campaigns that purport to solve the world’s problems by selling us products. Clara Piano discusses what this means.

Clara Piano received her Ph.D. from George Mason University in 2021 and is currently an Assistant Professor of Economics at Austin Peay State University as well as a Visiting Professor of Economics at the University of Mississippi. Her primary areas of research are family economics, law and economics, and public choice. Beyond economics, Clara enjoys reading and discussing Catholic social thought.

Andrew Abela is the founding dean of the Busch School of Business and Ordinary Professor of Marketing at The Catholic University of America, in Washington, D.C. He is a faculty affiliate at the Harvard University Human Flourishing Program and a Contributor at Forbes.com. He is the author of several books including A Catechism for Business and his newest book, Superhabits: The Universal System for a Successful Life, is due out this fall.
