Ave Maria in the Afternoon – September 19, 2024 – Hour 2

Matthew Bunson details what the Vatican said today about Medjugorje and we look at the history of the Stigmata with Paul Kengor.

What did the Vatican say today about Medjugorje?

Today the Vatican’s doctrinal office issued a highly anticipated-report on the alleged apparitions of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Medjugorje. The report endorsed prudent devotion to Mary at the popular pilgrimage site, yet withheld any declaration on whether the alleged visions are supernatural in origin. Matthew Bunson joins us with more on this and other Church news.

The stigmata is one of the strangest phenomena in the Catholic faith. Visionaries who have experienced the stigmata are living crucifixions, vividly portraying before the world Christ’s atoning death. We dive into their history with Paul Kengor.

Paul Kengor is author of several books, most recently The Worst of Indignities: The Catholic Church on Slavery. His other books include The Devil and Bella Dodd, The Devil and Karl Marx, and A Pope and A President: John Paul II, Ronald Reagan and the Extraordinary Untold Story of the 20th Century. He has also written spiritual biographies of Ronald Reagan, Hillary Clinton, and George W Bush. He’s professor of political science at Grove City College in Grove City, Pa., and senior academic fellow at the Institute for Faith and Freedom and is the editor of the American Spectator.
