The American Experiment in Ordered Liberty

In 1995 Pope St John Paul II proclaimed “America has always wanted to be a land of the free. Today, the challenge facing America is to find freedom’s fulfillment in the truth.” Despite this, many academics still question whether Catholicism is compatible with the American project in liberal democracy. We discuss it with John Pinheiro.

John Pinheiro is Director of Research at the Acton Institute for the Study of Religion and Liberty. He is the author of books and articles on the early American republic, including the award-winning Missionaries of Republicanism: A Religious History of the Mexican-American War and The American Experiment in Ordered Liberty. A Litany to Mary, Patroness of America

In 1999 Pope St. John Paul II proclaimed Our Lady of Guadalupe to be Patroness of the Americas, and Mary the Immaculate Conception has been recognized as Patroness of the United States since 1846. But did you know every State has its own Marian patronage? As we await the results of the election, Marcus offers a Litany to Our Lady of the Americas.
