We discuss raising Catholic kids with Greg Popcak and Douglas Bushman looks at the most important encyclical you’ve never heard of.

How Can I Raise Catholic Kids?

One of the most common questions we hear from our listeners is how they can raise their Catholic kids to be Catholic adults. On average, only about 15% of children raised in Catholic households become practicing Catholic adults. Greg Popcak has studied families who bucked that trend – he shares what he has learned.

The Most Important Encyclical You’ve Never Heard Of

In August of 1964, Pope Paul VI released an often-overlooked encyclical that is nevertheless greatly important for today. Entitled Ecclesiam Suam, it addresses the principle of Renewal in the Church. We unpack it with Douglas Bushman.

Douglas Bushman served as parish Director of Adult Faith Formation and diocesan Director of Formation for Adults and for the Permanent Diaconate. He is well-known as past director of the Institute for Pastoral Theology at Ave Maria University and the University of Dallas, and for his courses on Ecclesiology, Catholic Spirituality, John Paul II, Vatican II, and Pastoral Theology. For eight years he held the St. John Paul II Chair of Theology for the New Evangelization at the Augustine Institute, during which time he developed a course on the Theology of the New Evangelization and completed the research contained in his recent book, The Theology of Renewal for His Church: The Logic of Vatican II's Renewal in Paul VI’s Encyclical Ecclesiam Suam, and Its Reception in John Paul II and Benedict XVI (Wipf and Stock, 2024). His writings have appeared in numerous Catholic publications, such as Magnificat, Nova et Vetera, Homiletic and Pastoral Review, and Catholic World Report. He is also author of A Theology of Spiritual Exercises for a Sustained Response to the Call to Holiness and to the Apostolate. He also contributed to translating the Catechism of the Catholic Church from the original French into English.
