Catholic sculptor Tim Schmalz says that while Renaissance artists produced masterworks to depict the Catholic faith almost photographically, his work seeks to “go behind the scenes” and bring to life perennial truths. He joins us to share what this means.

Catholic artist Tim Schmalz brings Scripture to life with sculpture

Timothy Schmalz is a Canadian sculptor. Cast editions of his life-sized sculptures have been installed in major cities in front of some of the most historically significant Christian sites in the world, including Capernaum, the Vatican and Fatima. In recent years, he has worked directly with the Vatican to create several sculptures that highlight spiritual concerns in our modern day.

Jeremy Dowsett is a doctoral student focused in the area of moral theology/ethics and Catholic social teaching. His research interests include how Catholic social teaching addresses racial injustice in the United States, ethical responses to the "attention economy" and expressions of theology and ethics in popular culture.
