Description: Polyphony is the term for music that uses simultaneous yet independent melodies. The Church’s collection of polyphonic music grew out of Gregorian chants in the Middle Ages and grew throughout the Renaissance. Much of the Church’s polyphonic music has been lost, but Christopher Mueller is working to reverse that trend. He joins us to talk about how.

Christopher Mueller is the President of the Christopher Mueller Foundation for Polyphony and Chant. He estimates that his choirs have sung about 1300 different Renaissance motets at Mass and he has composed more than 200 choral works for the Mass. He has worked with volunteer, professional and children’s choirs with an emphasis on chant and is the former coordinator of Marriage Prep Programs for the Archdiocese of New York.
