    • Upward: Faith, Church, and the Ascension of Christ

The ascension of Christ is usually taken for granted and often neglected.  Indeed, it represents that forgotten dimension of faith in its reach beyond the categories, concepts, and concerns of our mundane existence, even in the church. This book is written with the conviction that there are further riches to be discovered.  Christ’s ascension indelibly marks the limitless horizon of Christian life. It reminds us that the mission of evangelization is unconfined, always moving beyond, upward, outward, in the vitality of the risen Christ who already occupies every dimension of time and space.  Properly understood, the ascension is a fundamental aspect of the catholicity of faith and enables it to breathe more deeply in its experience of “the boundless riches of Christ” (Eph 3:9). • Ascension & Ecclesia : On the Significance of the Doctrine of Ascension

Recent theology offers few attempts to come to grips with the meanings and implications of the ascension of Jesus. / Professor Farrow makes his approach through the scriptures, the eucharistic liturgy, the fathers and the reformers, before tracing his subject into modern times. He not only demonstrates that the doctrine of the ascension has played a much larger role in the history of Christian and western thought than is generally realized, but tackles many of the difficult questions others have been content to ignore. • Ascension Theology

Ascension Theology places the doctrine of the ascension in the context of the biblical narrative of descent and ascent, in order to shed light on 'the upward call of God in Christ Jesus' and on the eucharistic community that hears and answers that call. It is a book for the Church as well as the academy. Ascension Theology also offers a contemporary account of the Eucharist itself. It addresses the relation of the heavenly session of Christ to the conflicting currents of the present age, and the transformation to the life of the world to come. Specialist and non-specialist alike will find much to ponder in its traditional yet controversial claims. (learn more)

This story has always been a favorite of ours as an example of News as Entertainment – CNN devoted weeks of coverage to the story despite knowing next to nothing, On Day 31, the network ran a segment with the headline “families frustrated by media coverage” – they didn’t seem to see the irony. Paul Yin, a prominent Chinese psychologist, spent the ensuing months with the families of the victims, helping them with their grief. Paul Yin immediately orchestrated counseling for all those involved by connecting them to insurance/EAP if they had it, trained counselors on the spot, and conducted his own sessions.
