Dr Michael Kortbus grew up the son of immigrant parents on Long Island, New york. After graduating from public high school, he attended Saint Anselm college in Manchester New Hampshire under the tutelage of the Benedictine monks there. Having attained a bachelor of arts degree in biology, he then attended Tufts University School of medicine in Boston, graduating in 2001. He moved back to New York and completed residency in otolaryngology – head and neck surgery at New York University in 2006. Thereafter, He moved to the Hudson valley where he raises his four children together with his wife Kate.

A cradle catholic, Dr. Kortbus had a profound deepening of his Christian faith after the birth of his first child. Looking to the eyes of his newborn, the profundity of life became more apparent than ever. He joined the Order of Malta where he is now the regional hospitaller for the Hudson valley and through his work together with the Franciscan friars of the renewal in Newburgh has lately become active in the work of the revival of the spirit. Dr Kortbus is interceding for Unbound and is in the first quarter of the Encounter School of Ministry.
