“Addiction 101” will be presented on Tuesday September 16, 2014; 7:30 pm to 9:00 pm; by James Balmer; President, Dawn Farm. This program will provide a general overview of alcohol/other drug addiction and recovery. The presenter will examine the dynamics of alcohol and other drug use, review addiction as a brain disease and provide an overview of the process of recovery. Learn how individuals experience initial and continuing alcohol and other drug use and gain an understanding of the basic process and diagnosis of addiction, how the brain functions in a person with alcohol/other drug addiction, and tools utilized to treat addiction. This program is part of the Dawn Farm Education Series, a FREE, annual education series developed to provide accurate, helpful, hopeful, practical, current information about chemical dependency, recovery, family and related issues; and to dispel the myths, misinformation, secrecy, shame and stigma that prevent chemically dependent individuals and their families from getting help and getting well. The Education Series is designed to help people with alcoholism or other drug addictions to achieve, maintain and strengthen their recovery; assist family members and friends to understand and support recovery in people they care about as well as maintain their own health and well-being; aid professionals and students in various disciplines to work effectively with people with addictions and their families and support their recovery process; and contribute to a community culture supportive of recovery. All programs are free and open to anyone interested. Registration is not required. 1.5 hours of free C.E. approved by NAADAC (National Association for Addiction Professionals) and MCBAP (Michigan Certification Board for Addiction Professionals) is offered for each program. A certificate to document attendance is provided on request. The Education Series is organized by Dawn Farm, a non-profit community of programs providing a continuum of chemical dependency services. St. Patrick Catholic Church of Brighton, 711 Rickett Road invites all men & women to their Spiritual Speaker Series, featuring Catherine Lanni. Catherine is the founder of The Servants of Jesus of The Divine Mercy and will talk on Jesus’ Divine Mercy. Her book, A Call to Trust, will be on sale as well as other Divine Mercy items. August Theology on Tap with Sr. Ann Shields, S.G.L.: Hope in the Midst of Suffering
1) WHAT IS THEOLOGY ON TAP (ToT)?
Theology on Tap is a great time for young adults in their 20’s & 30’s to come together for fellowship, food and drinks, and hear a compelling talk from a dynamic speaker on the topics that impact us daily.
2) WHEN TO ARRIVE?
Anytime after 6:30PM. The talk begins at 7:30PM, and is followed by a live Q&A. ToT officially ends at 9PM, but you’re welcome to hang out afterwards with friends or to meet new people.
3) ABOUT THE SPEAKER:
*Sr. Ann Shields, S.G.L., is an internationally noted conference and retreat speaker; the host of the popular daily radio program Food for the Journey, and author of numerous books on Catholic spirituality including Deeper Conversion, To Be Like Jesus and in 2013, More of the Holy Spirit.
She is a member of The Servants of God’s Love, a charismatic religious community established in the Diocese of Lansing, Michigan and is a member of the Diocesan Pastoral Council.
Sr. Ann was awarded the Benemerenti Medal by Pope Benedict XVI in September of 2012 for service to the Church and is a recipient of the Aggiornamento Award given by the Catholic Library Association in recognition of outstanding contribution for the renewal of parish and community life.

we are a local chapter of the American Chesterton Society. We meet at 7 pm on the first Wednesday of each month to discuss all things Chestertonian. We are currently reading Orthodoxy, Ch 9. Next month we will begin reading some Father Brown stories. All are welcome.

Restless Heart uses a historic backdrop to tell the true story of St. Augustine of Hippo. The movie shows the encounters he has that bring about his conversion, including the constant prayers of his mother St. Monica.
The movie will be shown on Sunday, Sept. 14, 2014 at 2:00pm.at The River Raisin Centre for the Arts. They are located at 114 S. Monroe St., Monroe, MI 48161.
Cost is $5.00/person, 5 and under are free. There is a $20.00 cap for large families.
