Akathist Hymn for the Dormition (Assumption, as we call it in the west) of the Mother of God

Fr. Dcn.Lawrence Hendricks will lead us in praying the Akathist Hymn in honor of the Dormition of the Mother of God (or the Assumption, as we call it in the west).

The Akathist Hymn is a cherished part of the spirituality of the Byzantine Tradition, both in the Catholic Church and the Eastern Orthodox Church. For an introduction to the history and usage of the Akathist hymn, you can watch this documentary, courtesy of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p1aTQe869rg (If you need a late 80′s nostalgia fix, the video will help in that regard as well…)

Fr. Bill Ashbaugh has been generous enough to allow us to use the chapel in the St. Thomas rectory. Theresa Pellican has offered to serve as cantor.
