William M. Daley is Midwest chair of JP Morgan Chase and former co-chair of Barrack Obama’s presidential campaign, A member of the Daley Chicago political dynasty, he admits he has a personal stake in President Obama’s speech at Notre Dame: Daley is a Catholic and it’s widely rumored he’ll run for Illinois governor.

His April 3 Chicago Tribune opinion piece is laced with so many irrelevancies, non-sequitors and special pleadings that sane people may well doubt either his capacity to think Continue Reading

Nothing would better settle the question about Notre Dame’s value as a Catholic witness to the Kingdom of God than for its graduating students to greet this year’s commencement speaker, President Obama, with a vivid sign of Christian faith, hope, love, and courage. During his address, each graduate should cover his or her face with a two foot by two foot photo of either an aborted child or a beautiful Leonard Nilsson photo of an in utero human.

The President prizes learning, and a lesson of this sort should delight him. It Continue Reading

Outrage Is Not An Argument: Where Are the Grownups?

“[S]end us the names of those who received bonuses who have not given them back… release those names without restriction and if you feel unable to do that then I will ask the committee to subpoena them.”

It sounded like Joe McCarthy with a lisp but it was only Barney Frank grilling AIG’s CEO, Edward Liddy, about the 165 million dollars in bonuses just mailed to a few dozen Continue Reading

That is, he is the leader of the GOP and responsible for raising money, clarifying electoral strategies, and maintaining party unity by upholding the party platform. In a fun and revealing interview this week with GQ, the Catholic and reportedly pro-life Continue Reading

“How for so many years did Sean Penn get all those straight roles?” joked Robert de Niro as knowing delight ripples through the Members of the Academy gathered for the 81st Oscar ceremonies. Penn, then jauntily stepped to the podium and received his Best Actor Oscar for bringing murdered gay San Francisco Board of Supervisor Harvey Milk to life on the big screen in the movie, MILK. He hails his audience: “You commie, Continue Reading

Upon receiving his Oscar for best actor Sean Penn tried to use the phrase “Equal rights for everybody” as a weapon of shame against the defenders of traditional marriage. The final irony is that Penn’s call for universal equal rights has gained its moral authority from the same source as his opponents’ call to restore traditional marriage: The Hebrew and Christian influence on Western culture.

Historians acknowledge that the belief in and establishment of universal Continue Reading

President Obama announced on Wednesday his plan to prevent home foreclosures, saying he wanted to be “very clear about what this plan will not do. It will not rescue the unscrupulous or irresponsible by throwing good taxpayer money after bad loans…” This is obviously false and he knows it.

This crisis began in the sub-prime mortgage industry and the bail-out is precisely a case of being forced to throw “good money after bad loans.” Obama’s remedy does target Continue Reading
