    • Emily Stimpson

Emily Stimpson is a freelance Catholic writer based in Steubenville, Ohio, and the author of The Catholic Girl’s Survival Guide for the Single Years (Emmaus Road, 2012). Her next book, Everyday Theology of the Body: Meditations on the Mysteries and Manners of the Sacramental Worldview is forthcoming from Emmaus Road Press in August 2013. As a contributing editor to Our Sunday Visitor Newsweekly, a blogger for CatholicVote.com, and a columnist for Lay Witness, Emily writes regularly on “all things Catholic”—from politics and catechesis to higher education and the media, with a special focus on the Church’s teachings on marriage, sexuality, and femininity. Over the years, her writing has also appeared in First Things, Touchstone, Franciscan Way, the National Catholic Register, Faith and Family, and elsewhere. It has been honored by both the Catholic Press Association and the Associated Church Press, and was included in Loyola’s Best Catholic Writing series. Emily holds a BA from Miami University of Ohio (Phi Beta Kappa, summa cum laude), where she studied political science, history, and English literature. She also did graduate work in political science at John Hopkins University and theology at Franciscan University. Before moving to Steubenville, Emily worked in Washington, DC, first as a Legislative Assistant to then Congressman Jim Talent (R-MO), then later at the Heritage Foundation, where she served as Special Assistant to former Attorney General Edwin Meese III.

        • The Catholic Girl's Survival Guide for the Single Years - Three parts sexual license, two parts corporate ladder, with a dash of Monolo Blahnik. If a woman’s single years were a cocktail, that would be the culture’s preferred recipe. Alternatively, there’s two parts husband-hunting novena, one part weeping and gnashing of teeth, with a generous splash of "Offer It Up"—a concoction that makes for a more sanctifying albeit equally unsatisfying brew. Then, there’s this book. Equal parts fun and faithful, The Catholic Girl’s Survival Guide is chock full of practical insights on the nitty-gritty “how to” of the single years, helping women address some of the most pressing questions on their plate, including: Why am I still single? Is there any such thing as a “Single Vocation”? What is authentic femininity and what’s so great about it in the first place? How do I date as an adult without losing my sanity or my soul? Why shouldn’t I throw in the towel on chastity? How do I make decisions about school, work, and finances when there's no husband or babies on the immediate horizon? How do I deal with all my married friends and their children? And what does it take to battle the Single Girl Blues? As hopeful as it is honest, The Catholic Girl’s Survival Guide for the Single Years is the perfect companion for women whose journey to “I do” is turning out to be a longer one than they (or their mothers) would have liked.
